What is a silhouette? It’s an outline of any figure filled with a solid color, most commonly a dark shade. Like when you look at something against sunset.
Silhouettes are very useful when it comes to graphics, they almost always fit the background, since they don’t have many details to interfere with the whole picture.
In this quick tutorial, you will learn how easily you can create a silhouette from almost any picture in Photoshop.
Keep in mind that the most important step in this Photoshop tutorial is to make a nice selection- the more precise it is, the better quality your final silhouette will be.
Once done with the silhouette, you can turn it into a custom Brush or Shape. How to create one I will show in next tutorial.
Let’s start.
Step 1
Open an image in Photoshop and make a selection. I’ve made mine using the Magnetic Lasso tool:

Step 2
Create a New Layer by clicking on the small icon in the Layers palette:

Step 3
Fill the selection with black (or any color of your choice):

Step 4
Almost done. Now get rid of the background by simply deleting the layer:

That’s it. The silhouette is ready to use (just a quick “art”) :

Check back again, I will post a quick tutorial on how to create a Brush in Photoshop.
