Today I will take you a bit off the topic. However, we’re still talking about design. Ever wondered if dragons still exist? Yes they do. In Sundsvall, Sweden.
Every Summer a Dragon Parade takes place in city center. They place variously designed dragon sculptures in different places. There are like 40 or more different dragons. Every one of them is unique and represents some theme; you can see a basketball player dragon, one taking a bath in public, one with a gnome on its back and so on and so on.
The dragon has become the symbol of Sundsvall, representing their devastating past and triumphant move forward from the ashes. From high school mascots to store names, their presence can be found everywhere in the city.
But the most noticeable dragons are those of the Annual Dragon Parade. Read more »

We have talked about famous and most recognizable logos many times and you see them everyday and everywhere. They are a part of our lives for sure. Every single product has a logo on it and some of them we recognize from a distance, some by colors, style, letters, fonts and so on.
How well you know the most famous logos? We all know that Google logo has “some bright colors in it” but which ones and in what order? McDonald’s logo – red background and a big yellow M… Pepsi – a round red blue and white logo, with some curves… etc. Details? Hehe…

Photoshop made photo-editing much easier and fun and is the most used image editing software today among designers. But some designers misuse the gift completely.
In normal life you probably won’t note a missing leg, some abnormal anatomy of a superstar on a magazine cover, but sites like www.psdisasters.com make things clearer by showing those faults.
Seems like photoshop disasters happen everyday and everywhere. And it makes me feel sorry for those guys behind the photo projects, who are just not careful and not responsible enough. Some mistakes are so obvious you won’t even believe they were really printed/published, but they were. Read more »

Did you ever think about how many logos you are facing in a day? Most of us don’t realize the amount. Zillions of brands surround us like bacteria, which exist all over but we don’t see them.
So are the logos. It all starts with the first seconds of your day: you wake up, probably in a bed, which has a pillow, sheets, etc., and all those items have a lable. Check yours! Then you switch off the annoying alarm clock or most probably your alarm on mobile (which is a big brand itself), then you go to bathroom and brush your teeth (a toothbrush and a toothpaste with logos), shave and so on and on. It is a dozen logos already!
And then some one smart [I don't know who it was] invented a new trend in logo blogging, which you can see on many design blogs, titled mostly as “My day in logos” or alike. Read more »

I remember when back in 2000 I discovered Flash, it was Macromedia’s product I guess. I was like wooow! And I prepared my first 5 minute animation with my little knowledge for our New Year celebration. It was a funny video which was projected on a big wall, so that everybody celebrating could see what was going on.
It was so lame [I regret I don't have it anywhere to show you], but back then, people were amazed.

Photoshop changed the design industry. You can manipulate photos as much as you can and want, limited only with your capabilities. But some dudes, wanna-be-designers or just not-so-careful guys screw their projects up pretty well.
When you are retouching a picture you have to be careful about details. Most common mistakes are seen in anatomic mishaps. You will see that mostly designers forget to remove unwanted parts and there come the third arms, legs or missing legs and so on and so on.
Sometimes you won’t even believe that such a mistake could ever be done. So obvious!
So, come on guys, we are given a talent, a great tool called Photoshop, only thing to do is be careful and use your mind. Look at those awful mistakes and keep them in mind next time you start manipulating a photo! Read more »

Ever tried finger-painting on your touch phones? If you didn’t – try it, it’s fun! A bit cumbersome [new word in my English:) ] simply because it doesn’t draw right under your fingertip, it’s…uhh..you have to try it to understand.
One day I got so much bored that I grabbed my wife’s Nokia N97 mini and started finger-drawing some logos just as I remembered them. Not too perfect they went…but..anyways, take a look. Heh. Read more »
